Abandon the search for truth. Settle for a good fantasy. -Anonymous, and why I write and read There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all. -Oscar Wilde, and why I read what I read All happy families resemble each other, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. -Leo Tolstoy, and why I write what I write It is impossible to enjoy idling thoroughly unless one has plenty of work to do. -Jerome K. The light by your bed burns brightly, and in the silence of the room you flip the page of a book, but the black ink bleeds into the paper and the lines blur into meaningless jumble.
You stop to rub your temples and you fetch another cup of tea.
You sip, and the aroma nudges your senses awake, so you resume waiting for him to come home, with alcohol in his breath and the marks of other men on his skin. You open the book.
Nothing still makes sense.
It is late, and you are as blind as the night.

Title: Five Things That Katie Bell Did Not Sign Up For Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Roger/Katie Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 2200~ Summary: Katie's job demands a lot from her, but when it comes to Roger Davies, it can sometimes mean things that aren't even included in the fine print. Additional Notes: Written for purelush as a pinch-hit for the first clever_claws fest. First posted here. Much thanks to hockeysaurus for the beta. ( The lights were far too bright, the music too loud, the space too crowded. )Tags: challenge: fest entry, character: katie bell, character: roger davies, rating: pg13, type: het, type: rare ships, word count: above 1000

Title: Do You Believe in Snorkacks? Fandom: Harry Potter Author-turned-pseudo-artist: slumber Pairing: Luna/Hermione Rating: PG13 Medium: Colored markers Summary: "You'll need to be very, very quiet, or else the crumple-horned snorkacks will take more than your shoes." Additional Notes: Drawn for hpsauce at hp_april_fools over at IJ. Started out completely different (and much more detailed) in my head but lack of art materials, proper scanning tools, Photoshop skills, and actual artistic ability produced this instead. LOL. Whatever. There are skirts involved, and ties, too, so I am happy. |

Title: Salvation by Slytherin Author: slumberRating: NC-17 Word Count: ~8,700 Warnings: Nothing, really. Plot, probably, and a disappointing lack of darkness. Summary: All Terry Boot wants to do is author a book and perhaps rewrite history as wizarding society remembers it, but the Slytherins just won't cooperate. When a civil war erupts and Terry's only chance of escape involves working with a poorly-acronymed rebel group and an army of questionable professionals to take down the largest magical empire in the world, is his potential bestseller really worth all the trouble? (Theodore/Blaise, Draco/Terry, shades of Draco/Theodore.) Disclaimers: If I owned Harry Potter, it wouldn't be about Harry Potter. Made up facts and figures derived from actual facts and figures found in Wikipedia. Notes: Though the Slytherins were nowhere in the Battle of Hogwarts in the book, JKR has stated in later interviews that they were, so I've taken that for fact. This was written for mr_mercutio during the recently concluded hpvalensmut, originally posted here. Much thanks and love to ccharlotte for the beta. Title: Un Crimine in Tre Atti (A Crime in Three Acts) Fandom: Harry Potter (barely :|) Pairing: Roger/Blaise (hints of Blaise/Theodore) Rating: R Word Count: 350 words Summary: Il Seduzione. La Relazione. Il Tradimento. Additional Notes: Because things sound better in another language, hee. Written for ccharlotte, though most of the inspiration for it came from her too. :P Happy Birthday! Here's to more random plotting, Roger and Blaise, growing old!, and eee, graduating and grad school! (See you in August! :D:D:D) Atto I: Il SeduzioneIt starts with a playful comment, like it always does. It follows through with a wink here, another smirk there, like it always has. But his eyes linger a second longer and you catch him then, and where you would not have pushed, you do. (Cat-got-the-mouse grin, voice lowered to a murmur.) "Like what you see?" Where he might have backed out, he doesn't. (Tongue wetting full lips.) "Maybe." Where you meant to keep your distance, you don't. (Hips now dangerously close, lips moving against his ear.) "But you do, don't you?" Where he would have said no-- (The softest, traitorous hitch of breath.) "Goddammit, Roger." He doesn't. Title: The Assassin's Tango Fandom: Weiss Kreuz Pairing: Brad Crawford/Hidaka Ken Rating: PG-13 Word Count: ~1,500 Summary: Life after Weiss isn't as easy to figure out, but Ken's taking it one day at a time. Additional Notes: Written for chaosraven for the weissday challenge/fest here, this is (and will remain to be) my only venture into the Weiss Kreuz fandom, which is quite tragic, because I don't even ship brad/ken. :\ ( The first few weeks after they were first disbanded have been easy to figure out. )Tags: challenge: fest entry, fandom: other, rating: pg, type: rare ships, type: slash, word count: above 1000

Title: The First Christmas Pairing: Percy/Hermione Rating: G Word Count: 212 Summary: Snow covered the remnants of the night's battle. Additional Notes: Pinch-hit for hp_kris_kringle. They barely celebrated Christmas in the last few years, not when green meant the Dark Mark hanging high over recently attacked houses and villages or the third Unforgiveable hitting an innocent, not when red meant spilled blood of men and women who stood to fight the Dark Lord's army and lost. Last night had been the last battle, where Harry had faced Lord Voldemort, and the Aurors and the Order had finally banded together against the Death Eaters, and the night was nearly a deadly parody of Christmas-lit towns, the sky illuminated in the green and red of curses. Morning came, and all was quiet. "Percy?" Hermione called out tentatively, stumbling over bodies and shaking as she drew her coat tighter around her body. "Right here," a voice replied from behind her, hoarse and weak from casting one curse too many. She turned at once, running toward Percy, who clung tight to her. "I thought--I didn't see--I was worried--" she stammered helplessly, fingers curled against his rumpled clothes and voice nearly breaking. "It's alright, I'm here," he murmured, stroking her back soothingly just as the first snowflakes fell from the sky. "We're safe." Snow covered the remnants of the night's battle, and it was the first Christmas in a long time that stayed as purely white as the season. (In retrospect, I should probably have signed up for Roger Davies instead of Ravenclaws.) Written for ccharlotte. Title: Gentler Kisses Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Vague, but let's put it at Ravenclaws, although it could work with another pairing I like. Rating: PG Word Count: 150 words--me and my love affair with the exact Summary: There were gentler kisses now. Additional Notes: For the fanfic100 challenge, for the prompt Taste. I haven't written properly in ages so this is a little. Meh. Unexpected, I guess. I was trying to write something else. There were kisses that burned his lips and marked his skin long after they first claimed him territory. There were kisses that haunted him long after they'd gone, kisses from a wide-eyed boy with messy hair and goofy grins, now a lonely boy with delicate wrists and soft lips and kisses that lingered. There were kisses that he remembered, kisses that he missed, kisses from the boy he loved who thought love wasn't enough. There were kisses he learned to forget, kisses he learned to replace with kind smiles and shy hellos, hesitant pauses that eased back into years of friendship and light banter with the same wide-eyed boy who kissed his heart to pieces. There were gentler kisses now because they meant nothing and, in being so, broke nothing. They were too fragile to break anymore, the boys and their kisses. But one kiss might have made them whole. Title: Under the Mistletoe Pairing: Tom/Bellatrix Rating: G Word Count: 108 Summary: Be careful who you find yourself under the mistletoe with. Additional Notes: Pinch-hit for hp_kris_kringle. When her sisters giggled over who they’d kissed under the mistletoe, Bellatrix kept quiet, choosing vicious red dress robes and a delicate necklace, for she was to meet Rodolphus Lestrange at that night’s party. “Hurry up, children,” she said. “And I’d be careful who I find myself with under it.” But she hadn’t been careful. Before the Lestranges arrived, she looked up to where the mistletoe was and saw it directly above her. “Fascinating, isn’t it?” a voice murmured from behind her. She turned to a handsome man with a charming grin. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Tom Riddle.” Tags: character: bellatrix lestrange, character: tom riddle, rating: g, type: het, type: rare ships

Additional Notes: Pinch-hit for hp_kris_kringle. “I have the crappiest timing in the world, don’t I?” Remus asked, tired brown eyes apologetic, even sheepish. “Don’t, you know this happens and you can hardly help it,” he replied instead, nudging a steaming cup into his chapped lips. “Drink.” His lips parted the slightest bit and Severus tipped the cup carefully, hands steady with the practice of years. “Your present’s under the tree,” Remus whispered. Severus sat outside the shack that night, bathed in hateful moonlight and listening to every whimper and howl from inside, wrapped in a large gray fur coat. “Merry Christmas to you too, Moony.” Tags: character: remus lupin, character: severus snape, rating: g, type: rare ships, type: slash, word count: 100

Title: Carols Pairing: Ernie/Hannah Rating: G Word Count: 107 Summary: Ernie's first Muggle Christmas. Additional Notes: Pinch-hit for hp_kris_kringle. Ernie visited Hannah for the holidays for their Muggle Studies project. He’d spent the time packing and preparing for the few days he’d be staying over by filling his bag with as much Muggle clothing as he thought suitable, to which Hannah had giggled at his Classic Tweed Collection and brought out her brother’s jeans and shirts to wear. “Here, put on a coat, we’ll go caroling,” she told him cheerfully. Ernie frowned. “We sing Christmas carols too, how is it different here?” Hannah grinned. “It isn’t, that’s sort of part of the point, isn’t it?” And she was right. Title: Hogwash Pairing: Remus/Luna (sort of) Rating: G Word Count: 109 Summary: Luna stays over Christmas holidays, even when Sirius Black is on the prowl. Additional Notes: Written as a pinch-hit for hp_kris_kringle. Few people stayed at Hogwarts that Christmas, which isn’t entirely surprising. The parents had been terrified about the news of Black’s escape and the rumours that he’d managed to penetrate even the walls of Hogwarts, and had insisted their children come home. Some, however, still stayed over. “Oh, Father believes that whole thing’s hogwash,” Luna told him when he asked, right after she’d sat primly beside him and wished him a merry Christmas. “He’s trying to expose the Minister’s heliopath army. Professor?” Remus blinked. “Yes?” “You’d better move away, you’re right under a mistletoe and the nargles can be vicious.” Tags: character: luna lovegood, character: remus lupin, rating: g, type: het, type: rare ships, word count: 100

Title: Five Ways to Fuck Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: ??/?? Rating: R Word Count: 500 words Summary: Mostly, though, it's any way you want to. Additional Notes: It started out Terry/Michael, somehow I think it ended up being Blaise/Theodore, thus naturally I think this ought to be for ccharlotte (making up for the last fic) and starflowers (thank you for the drabble :D). Because I need to cut me some slack, this is also for fanfic100, for the prompt How? I apologise for the title, no better one presented itself to me between writing the fic and now. Title: Chapter Twenty-Two Outtake Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Michael/Terry Rating: PG-15 Word Count: 100 words Additional Notes: Um. Contains something SPOILERY, so if you've not read til chapter 22 of HBP yet, not that it's really related to that, then yeah, you'd best avoid this then. Um. Just got the idea, which is really just. Silliness. I've not even finished reading it yet, ha. ha. Edit: For fanfic100, for the prompt Insides, for obvious reasons. :| Destination. “One.” Michael closes his eyes. Determination. “Two.” His mind is blank, and he feels it sweep over him. Deliberation. “THREE!” Suddenly the air is pressing from all around, forceful, and he can actually feel movement, and there’s that strange sensation, and, yes, a soft, telling pop. He’d done it. “Um.” Michael curses, eyes still shut, mentally examining his body, which certainly feels complete, only. He opens his eyes to Terry’s flustered cheeks and startled eyes, and Twycross breaks the horrible silence that follows. “Mr Corner, please remove yourself from Mr Boot’s pants as soon as you can, thank you.” Tags: challenge: fanfic100, character: michael corner, character: terry boot, ratng: pg15, type: rare ships, type: slash, word count: 100 mood: sheepish music: As Things Collide - Maroon 5

So Theodore's stringy and weedy-looking. It's an awkward age. So Blaise sometimes has boobies. Title: Winter Season Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Adrian/Miles Rating: PG 13 for language Word Count: 365 Summary: Adrian doesn't like the cold. Additional Notes: Again, written for hp_kris_kringle. I've at least two more ficlets written for that comm, pretty soon I'll put up new stuff. Ish. I protest that no one is online, and I can't log into Y!M. Oh my GOD, WHERE is EVERYONE? *slumps* I protest that I lost my Photoshop, and no one seems to be able to lend me theirs. All I've been doing offline is listening to music (sustains me) and playing Solitaire (am in TEARS). You can also tell that the reason I posted fic was so I can rant. :| PS. OMG I will DIE of boredom COME ONLINE and GMAIL ME.Adrian despised the cold. He hated the draft of icy wind that made its way down the depths of the Slytherin dungeons at night, the harsh chill of the stone walls of their dormitory. He loathed the freezing air, the icy droplets of rain that seeped through the fabric of his Quidditch robes and through his skin. The cold went straight to his bone, piercing right through skin to freeze his soul. " Fucking weather, fucking cold," he cursed, slamming the door to the Slytherin showers after their match against Ravenclaw. His sight had been heavily crippled by the heavy fall of rain, and he'd fumbled a few passes and threw the Quaffle towards Ravenclaw chasers instead. It hadn't been a good match, although they'd won by thirty points. "Go ahead, Pucey. Blame the weather instead of your abysmal Quidditch skills." Adrian looked up to see Miles Bletchley sneering at him from the shower stall, arms crossed as he leant back against the wall, a dark green towel wrapped around his slim waist. Adrian narrowed his eyes, saying nothing as he jerked off his protective caps and pulled off his robes. "Like you fared any better. I can't believe you let those Quaffles into the goalposts." "I can't believe you threw those Quaffles into our goalposts." "Shut up, Bletchley," Adrian snarled, shoving the boy aside as he stepped into a shower stall, cursing as his feet touched mud on the floor. " Fucking barbarians - who didn't bloody take off their bloody boots?" "You're really not in the mood today, are you?" "You mean you can't tell?" Miles took a step closer to Adrian - the taller boy noted with disdain that Bletchley had rubber slippers on - and cocked his head to the side. "I can't say I can. What is your problem?" he asked, shoving Adrian back against the wall. "Shit!" Adrian hissed as the cold shower tiles burned through his bare back. "Piss off, Bletchley, and let a man shower in bloody peace." "Why should I?" Miles taunted, suddenly so much closer than Adrian felt marginally comfortable with, and yet, also so much warmer. "I don't know," Adrian mumbled, and he wasn't cold anymore. ( Insert Star Wars spoilerish comments here )REC: (In which I wax poetic and am clearly quite out of it) Title: SaintAuthor: Ruaki Fandom: Weiss Kreuz Summary: saint, n. A dead sinner revised and edited. (Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary) Review: Despite what we may claim about brilliant writing and all other standards that are the basis of what we end up reading, we all have certain ships, certain storylines, and certain characterisations which will never get too old or too overused or too cliched for us to read. The unrequited love triangle is mine, and years after I first encountered fanfiction, virtual ages past my forays into the anime fandom and after having moved on to HP fiction, Saint definitely still has a special place in my fandom heart. I can't exactly say which in it is beautiful for me. It is, for the most part, plain and unadorned in language and, in first-person, it isn't even in a point of view I like reading about. But the characters are clear and visible and there are scenes that stayed with me long after I've put the fic down and read plenty of others, such as the part in which Ken is kissing Youji and Youji doesn't want to open his eyes because Ken might disappear if he does. There it is, the hope of having love returned, in that one scene. It's all hope and not and despair and desire and teasing and it's just, also, sad. Overall. But really. I love how Youji wanted Ken, how Ken wanted Aya, and how Aya was just Aya. It's as simple as that. There are other fics (in Gundam Wing though, and Wufei-->Duo-->Heero in the leads) that have followed this formula and I've loved them too, but what I love especially about Saint is how it stays true to character to the end, among other things. So, you know, read this if this sort of story's your sort of story. And if it is, why don't you rec me unrequited love stories too, because MAN, the world needs a lot more of THOSE. In fiction, at least. ;) (I'm not sure if people unfamiliar with Weiss Kreuz will know what I'm talking about, or will be interested in reading, but give it a try anyway? The basic gist is that Youji, Ken, Aya and Omi are assassins by night, flower shop boys by day. Each of them has some sort of past. Youji was a detective whose partner, Asuka, was killed. Ken was a soccer player who was framed and whose reputation and viability as a player went down with him.)Tags: type: rare ships, type: rec, type: slash mood: bored

Title: Filling Spaces Fandom: Queer as Folk Spoilers: Season 2, eps 15-19 (only slightly, though) Pairing: Ethan/Justin, only, not really Rating: PG13 Word Count: 150 words Summary: Tragedy's beautiful too. Additional Notes: Supposed to explain why Ethan cheated, but I forgot about that but when I finished the drabble today. For siobhanohare, and substitutes like Ethan. You've my love. Justin smiles at him, lips curling up in his should-be-patented sunshine smile, and Ethan thinks it's love. And it is, it should be, the sort of mad passionate love that artists feel and live and create, the sort that masterpieces are made of, because Justin follows him and kisses him and Ethan thinks it can't be anything else but love. It is love, with enough fire to warm endless nights under the stars, enough fire to blaze endless nights under the earth, even when Justin shifts his gaze and tries hard to cry out Ethan's name when he knows, when they both know. Even then. And Ethan thinks, with Justin snuggled up next to him, sated but not wholly, that there's something madly passionate and poetic about filling spaces too. It's still love anyway, isn't it, Ethan wonders. Justin only breathes in reply, and Ethan thinks it has to be. Title: Undercurrents Pairing: Blaise/Terry Rating: PG13 Word Count: 1700 words Warnings: Language, Possible Parenthesis Abuse Summary: Terry's fifth year is terrible--he isn't prefect, there's some stupid defense club going around, and all Hogwarts Houses are a disgrace, among other things. Additional Notes: Originally titled TerryFic, but later scrapped because Terry would spork me for being a dork. :| It's subtle slash and it alludes more than anything. Subject to editing. Concrit is welcome, thanks. Edit: For fanfic100, for the prompt And. Title: Coping Mechanisms Fandom: Crossover (Rainbow Boys and QaF US) Pairing: Nellie/Brian Word Count: 160 words Rating: PG-13 (for language) Additional Notes: For starflowers, who requested Nellie/Brian and NC-17. Um. I'm going to retry, I didn't like how this turned out. Also, I know nothing of QaF beyond season 3. And who cared about Kyle Meeks anyway, the stupid boy, just because he'd gotten his braces out and Jason Carillo in his pants, so what if he's cute and quiet and supposed to be his--aren't best friends supposed to end up together anyway, that's what happened in Dawson's fucking Creek for Dawson and--well, no, it didn't, but only because Joey was actually a girl, but in real life it ought to happen. Oh, he doesn't care now, though, he has a hot new boyfriend anyway, see what the adorable stupid Kyle Meeks thinks of that. "Another child, Brian?" Lindsey gave Brian a pained look "Might be a coping mechanism," Melanie muttered from where she lay on the hospital bed, holding Gus's new sister. Brian Kinney shot Melanie a dirty look, and Nellie stuck out his bottom lip, arm looped around Brian's possessively. "I'm not a child," he protested. "I'll have you know I'm very mature for my age." Title: Premonitions Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Blaise/Theodore, very very subtle hint of Draco/Theodore Word Count: 100 words Rating: PG Additional Notes: Written for ccharlotte, who prodded and whined. :D Prompted by "Hogwarts era, best friendship/slight sexual tones :|" and "with colour playing a role :|" Also, forgive the title, I was being rushed. :| One day, when they were older, they'd realise. In between sheets of forest green, Blaise will wake to quiet gasps and soft cries, the sound of muffled demands and the whisper of a name that isn’t his, and then he’d realise. With a craving for red wine, Theodore will turn to find Blaise’s head on his shoulder, and then, to the crescendo of Act Three, Scene Two and the soft breathing of the boy sleeping against him, he’d realise. One day they’d realise, but until then Blaise shifts restlessly in his bed and Theodore tugs at his formal-black collar impatiently. Title: Colour-Coded Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Draco/Theodore Word Count: 100 words Rating: PG Additional Notes: I'd forgotten that I hadn't posted this yet until ccharlotte prompted me to write Theodore/Blaise and something with colours. :| Colours have a way of defining, shaping, Theodore's life. Green for the colours he proudly wears, black for the colours he soon shall. All shades of these colours, cool and dark, are good for him--blend in the black of night, wear robes of dark green, make acquaintances with Ravenclaw blue. He avoids all hues and shades of red, warm and bright, like the red and gold of Gryffindor arrogance, the happy yellows of Hufflepuff inanity, red-orange of Weasley poverty, and he slips into black night from Draco's bed to his just before the sky turns orange and betrays him. Title: The Smart One Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Blaise/Padma Word Count: 100 words Rating: R Additional Notes: I realised I haven't posted anything in a while, whoops. But anyway, yeah. I liked Padma/Blaise, and this was how I saw it. Edit: For fanfic100, for the prompt Shade. Padma had always been the smart one, knowing that there were plenty of gray areas in war, so she kept her options open. And they were open when Blaise Zabini's eyes locked with hers one day, open when Blaise asked her out, open still when he kissed her, and when his hands made her shiver and his tongue made her moan, so when he'd asked-- It was the smart thing to do. It wasn't until years later, after she'd killed her own sister and Azkaban became home that she realised it was she who'd been played the fool all along.
